Event-day pacing and fueling card from your GPX
Load your brevet or ultra race course and get a card for the top tube: every climb with the watts to hold and the ceiling not to cross, when you’ll reach it, and how much to eat and drink between each control.
What’s on the card
- Every climb of at least 40 m, 500 m and 3%: where it starts, how long and steep it is, the watts to hold and the ceiling for the steep ramps.
- A clock for each climb and control, from your start time and the stops you plan, so you know early if you’re behind.
- What to carry between controls: carbs, fluid and sodium for the moving time of each leg, plus one rule to eat by.
Why pace climbs on an ultra
Most riders lose their event on the first climbs, not the last. Going 30% over race pace on a 20-minute climb feels easy at hour two and costs you at hour twenty. A ceiling taped to the stem is the simplest way to hold back.
Fueling works the same way: eat by the clock, before you’re hungry. The carbs per hour guide explains how much and how to train your gut for it.
Train for it
Rehearse the same course indoors.
MeepMeep is a free trainer app for ultra riders. It can turn this GPX into an indoor session of its decisive climbs, in race order, with fueling prompts, so the pacing on this card is something you’ve practised.
Race card questions
Do I need the MeepMeep app to use the race card?
No. The race card is a free tool that works on its own in any modern browser, on a phone or a computer. You don’t need an account, a smart trainer or the app.
Is my GPX file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read in your browser and the card is worked out on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. Your numbers (not the file) are remembered in this browser for next time.
How are the climb targets worked out?
Flat road is ridden at your race pace: about 70% of FTP for a 200–300 km brevet, down to about 62% for multi-day races, or the figure you enter. Climbs get a little more as they steepen, but never more than 15% of FTP above race pace, and never more than you can hold for as long as the climb takes. The ceiling is 10% above the target, for the steepest ramps.
How accurate are the times?
They are moving-time estimates from your power, total weight and the gradient, for a rider on hoods and aero bars with bags and no wind. Add the stop time you enter at each control. Treat them as a plan to check against on the day, not a promise; fatigue, wind, night and traffic all slow you down.
How do I print a top-tube sticker?
Press Print card. The card prints as narrow strips about 6 cm wide; cut them out and tape them to the top tube or stem, under clear tape so they survive rain. On a phone, save it as a PDF instead and keep it on the lock screen.
