Rehearse your event course indoors from a GPX file
Upload the course of your brevet, randonnée or ultra race. MeepMeep finds its climbs and builds an indoor session that rides the decisive ones at their real length, in race order, at about the point in the day they come, with race pace in between.
- You bring
- A GPX track with elevation
- Session length
- 2 to 6 hours
- Trainer modes
- Power targets (ERG) or real gradient
- Also in
- Your training plan’s Specialty long rides
How a rehearsal is built
- The climbs are found. From the GPX elevation, every rise of at least 40 m, 500 m long and 3% on average counts as a climb. Flat run-ins are trimmed so a long valley drag doesn’t dilute it.
- The decisive ones are chosen. The hardest climbs, weighted toward late in the day when they hurt most, are ridden at their real length. A climb too long for the session is shortened to fit.
- Race pace fills the gaps. Steady riding at your event’s race pace stands in for the kilometres between, so each climb comes about as far into the session as it does on the day.
- Climbs are paced by gradient. From race pace on gentle drags up to 90% of FTP on steep ramps, with a “Descent — eat & drink” step after each top.
Power targets or real gradient
| Power targets | Real gradient | |
|---|---|---|
| Trainer mode | ERG | Slope (simulation) |
| What you practise | Holding back on steep ramps | Choosing gears and effort on the real road |
| What’s ridden | Each climb as timed steps | The run-in, the climb to its top and the start of the descent, end to end |
| Also | Exports to a Garmin for outdoor rides | Pace assist (E) gives power targets when you want them |
Either way the course profile is kept with the workout, and each step records which kilometres of the course it stands for.
Rehearsals in your training plan
Load the GPX on the plan form and it fills in the event’s distance and climbing; alternate Specialty long rides then rehearse the course. Already have a plan? Rehearse the course on the Plan page swaps those same upcoming Specialty long rides for rehearsals, keeping each one’s day and length, and leaves the rest of the plan alone.
Good fits: the Paris–Brest–Paris plan, London–Edinburgh–London, a hilly 600 km brevet or the Transcontinental parcours.
Getting a good GPX
- Export the event’s route as a GPX track from Komoot, RideWithGPS, Strava or Garmin Connect. All of them include elevation.
- Organisers often publish the official GPX; use that rather than redrawing the route.
- The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. The rehearsal is saved on your device with your other workouts.
Course rehearsal questions
How do I ride a GPX route on an indoor trainer?
In MeepMeep, open Workouts and choose Rehearse a course, then pick the GPX file. It finds the climbs, lets you choose a 2 to 6 hour session and whether the trainer holds power targets or the real gradient, and saves it as a workout to ride.
Does the GPX file need elevation?
Yes. Export it as a GPX track with elevation. Routes from Komoot, RideWithGPS, Strava and Garmin Connect all include it. A file with only waypoints or no heights can’t be rehearsed.
Why not ride the whole course indoors?
A 600 km or 1200 km course is days of riding. A rehearsal keeps what decides the day, the climbs at their real length and roughly where they come, and lets race pace stand in for the kilometres between, so it fits a long training ride.
Is my GPX file uploaded anywhere?
No. MeepMeep reads the file in your browser, and the rehearsal is saved on your device with the rest of your workouts. There is no account and no server copy.
Ride your event before event day.
Free in Chrome or Edge. Open Workouts, choose Rehearse a course, and pick your GPX.
